I first heard of Mondo Macabro as a DVD releasing entity through an ad advertising an upcoming DVD release of The Girl Slaves of Morgana Le Fay in either Rue Morgue or Fangoria. I found the ad enticing, and of course, ordered it, and 2 other titles from the label Alucarda, and Satanico Pandemonium. This was in 2005, now in 2020, Mondo Macabro have gone to the Satanico Pandemonium in order to bring it to the Blu-ray format.
Satanico Pandemonium is one of the definitive nunsploitation films. It follows the innocent Sister Maria who one day finds herself in the presence of a nude apple eating man. This incident corrupts hers, and all of a sudden she goes from sweet little nun, to AGENT OF SATAN!
Satanico Pandemonium is another of a long line of films that basically saw the Devils, and thought “I can outdo this”, and then went out trying to do so. Of course, this film is full on maximum level psychedelic exploitation, and isn’t afraid to showcase violence, nudity, and sacrilege at every possible moment. Translation, it is brilliant trash, and belongs in your collection.
Mondo Macabro always out to excellent work all around provide 2 viewing options. The first is a 4k scan of the negative that has excellent colors, details, and black levels. However, as per the menu it has an optical fault that could not be fixed, so they scanned a theatrical print which did not have the problem. The print used is solid, but the colors are toned done, and is grainier. This would be great for a more grindhouse viewing experience, but overall the 4k scan is the way to go. Audio is handled by a DTS-HD MA audio track in Spanish, and sounds quite clear without issue. Extras include another in a long line of brilliant and in-depth commentaries by Kat Ellinger and Samm Deighan, and a Mondo Macabro promo reel. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
