Cecilia played by Muriel Montosse marries Andre (Franco regular Antonio Maysns) 2 years before out story kicks off. At the beginning their relationship was full of sexual discovery, especially for Cecilia. However, at this point Cecilia finds herself quite bored with her relationship, and her life far away from the city. One day her driver allows his 2 brothers to have their way with her after removing her from his car.
At first she is repulsed by the rape experience, but soon after she finds herself reborn as a new sexual creature through it, and she and Andre begin to collectively and separately participate in orgies, and have sex with other people. This, of course, has an effect on their relationship. Cecilia must decide if she would rather save her marriage or continue her new lustful ways.
Cecilia is A LOT of softcore sex, and I mean a lot. If you come into the film for boobs and butts you’ll probably least satisfied. Aside from that there is nothing, but a minimal plot tying this one off, normally that’s not an issue with Franco, as he can take the most minimal of plots, tie together his wild imagery and create something interesting, wild and distinctly his own with it. This just feels like a softcore sex film that most directors could have made at this point in time. There are a few cool moments like the orgy with Lina Romay. Franco, also uses the locations quite well in a sligtly atmospheric way. A nod has to be given to Muriel Montosse who does a very solid performance and really does give the film what pulse it has.
Blue Underground presents Cecilia in a very nice 1:66:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer. Detail is EXCELLENT, textures are filmlike, black levels are inky and deep, and colors are well reproduced. Audio is in English and French DTS-HD tracks, and sound quite clear and nice. Extras include Franco’s original cut of the film which is shorter than the main feature, but tonally might actually be more in keeping with Franco’s intent. There is also a 16 minute interview with Stephen Thrower which is absolutely essential. There is also a wonderful 68 minute documentary called Franco Philes that goes over the career of Jess Franco. We also get an archival interview with Jess himself, where he blatantly calls out the Cecilia version as not his film. There is also a trailer rounding off the set.
Cecilia as a film (in it’s main presentation version) is a bit too much of a plain software film. The original Franco presentation also included on the disc improves the film IMMENSELY. Blue Underground’s presentation for both are top notch, with an excellent extras slate this one is definitely HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Pick it up if you are a Franco-Phile!
