Shirobako will seriously affect you if you have ever tried to work as a creative. Have you and your friends ever tried to make a career in films, start a band, make an album and hit the road only to realize that it was a long and arduous road? Shiroback WILL AEFFECT YOU.
The series follows Aoi and her friends. During high school they made a film and had a blast. They figured that they should be able to pull it off again, and so they made a promise to get into the anime industry, and work together again. This was easier said then done.
Shirobako is oddly more than a surface level anime about friends and their goals. It does play in the sand box of anime fandom a bit, but overall it really does say something about struggling with life, career, and goals and is applicable outside of the world of art, though it does hit hard if one has tried to make it inside that realm especially. Further, if you were curious about the creation of anime from start to finish, this does a really solid baseline job of informing about the process. Again it’s not a documentary but it does show the in’s and out’s of the process and some of the struggle of how our favorite series were created.
The animation itself here is GORGEOUS. I mean I was taken in from frame 1 by how great this show looked. The score is decent, and fitting but it didn’t exactly standout. Still it helped fit the tone of the show quite well.
Sentai Filmworks presents Shirobako in a very solid 1:78:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer. Everything looks solid here, detail is nice, blacks are deep, colors pop. Audio is presented in English and Japanese 2.0 tracks and sound quite solid and without issues. Extras include a clean opening and closing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
