Imagine a woman being in love with a man, but he is married to another woman, and then you decide to marry another man instead. Then you find out the married man that you still love is trying to get a divorce, bur now it’s too late! Well, that’s the situation the 1947 drama Lighthouse presents. Distributed by PRC, this low budget feature has two men in love with one woman
Lighthouse stars Connie Armitage (June Lang, Captain January) who is deeply in love with and wants to marry assistant lighthouse keeper Sam Wells (Don Castle, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Stampede), but when he puts her off, she marries his friend and older colleague who runs the lighthouse, Hank ( John Litel, Marked Woman, Flight to Mars) out of spite when she finds out Sam is already married. Why she so desperately wants to hurry up and get married is beyond me. The three wind up living together in the tight quarters lighthouse where things start to get intense, especially when Sam tells Connie he was in the middle of a divorce so that he could wed her, and of course it’s too late because she married Hank. But is Sam telling the truth? Lots of treachery awaits!
Film Masters releases Lighthouse as part of their Archive Collection. It’s a BDr disc, not that there’s anything wrong with that. The video quality for this obscure movie looks consistently excellent to me with balanced blacks, whites and greys with plenty of film grain. Scenery shows plenty of detail with a nice, clean image. I thought the feature looked most impressive! Print damages such as speckles are minimal.
For the audio the Film Masters has opted to go with the usual English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 and the sound quality, such as dialogue, music and action noises are clear without anything being overly aggressive. No hissing or other audio issues were detected. English subtitles are available.
There are no supplements for this Blu-ray.
Basically, this release is for those who are indifferent to extras and want to see a low-budget classic with good audio and video. It’s a harmless one-hour film that is highly entertaining. Recommended!
