I’m beginning to feel like I am trapped in a world of Xerox copies of Overlord. Every anime I watch people are getting trapped in fantasy worlds or video games, and most fight their way out, or save humanity. Some of these are good. Some of these are watchable, and I’m sort of wondering what is the point. Arifureta isn’t bad, it’s in the watchable territory, but at this juncture I just don’t see the point.
Arifureta follows Hajime and his homeroom class. They are transported to a fantasy world where they start out of “commonplace”, but quickly level up and get powerful. Basically, Hajime starts a weakling and becomes a badass. Honestly, the transformation is quick, and so the struggle in the new universe is limited.
However, if I’m going to recommend this show, it’s because stylistically it’s kind of cool. Nothing that hasn’t been seen before, but the action is solid. Hajime the badass is fun to watch, just story-wise it’s not too interesting. If you can get past the fact you’ve seen it before, the animation coupled with the action provide some solid hours of entertainment.
The Blu-ray from Funimation is presented in a solid 1:78:1 1080p transfer. Detail is excellent, colors are nicely reproduced. Audio is presented with True HD tracks in English and Japanese and sound great. Extras include a Twitter picture drama, promo videos, commercials, and textless intros. RECOMMMENDED.
