I grew up in South Florida, and I knew that at some time before I lived there horror movies were made in the area Mostly stuff like Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things (a classic), and later on some of H.G. Lewis’ more notorious films. As it turns out, quite a few camp horror classics were made in the Sunshine State throughout the 1960’s and 70s including Sometimes Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things.

This film follows a pair of criminals hiding out from their Baltimore-based crimes in Florida. There is Paul who is dressed up and acting as Aunt Martha, and Stanley, who is trying to sleep with as many Florida hippie chicks as possible. Unfortunately, Aunt Martha gets jealous of these frequent escapades, and things begin to unravel.

This is a really wild film here. If I had to use a comparison to describe it, it’s like the worlds of H.G. Lewis and Andy Milligan were thrown in a delightfully tacky Florida horror blender, and this was the result. The performances especially Paul/Martha played by Abe Zwick is totally outrageous and unforgettable. This is one that will definitely be getting repeat plays out of me.

Sometimes Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things is a Blu-ray upgrade from a 2015 AGFA DVD release. Itr’s presented in 1:85:1 and looks solid, but is taken from a print source with obvious limitations. Everything looks quite solid here, though there is fading and source damage. Audio is handled by a DTS-HD mono track. There is some hissing that can be heard, but everything is audible. Extras include a commentary track by Evan Purchell and Bret Berg, 2 short films, multiple trailers, and much MORE. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
