Kandagawa Jet Girls is a multimedia project that ties together this 12 episode anime series with an OVA and PS4 racing game. The series premise is quite simple Rin has long wanted to follow in her late Mother’s footsteps. Those footsteps, however, would lead her to be a racer in the sport of Kandagawa Jet Racing. Unfortunately, she lives in a rural village where no one practices the sport, so she goes off to Tokyo to go to high school to compete. This is where she meets Misa, a new roommate who has already competed, and is jaded about continuing to do so. The sport involves a racer, and an offensive shooter who fires a water cannon to slowdown the other team (and knock off their clothes haha). Of course now they have to get the sport going again at their school so their uphill battle could be considered an “against the tide” battle…

OK, so yeah it’s a product tie in show, so that usually is a strike against, and to be fair Kandagawa Jet Girls isn’t an anime masterpiece. That being said this show is a blend of cliché sports/club anime, with silly and sleazy that for me JUST WORKS. So we have the enthusiastic character that wants to restart the club against all odds, the friend that doesn’t really want to do it anymore, and the school that’s sort of down about it. They have to get the club going, work together to get their skills up… you know the drill. But the characters are fun, and the amount of ridiculous (and I do mean ridiculous excuses for nudity) make this a bit hysterical to watch. The matches for the sport are quite fun as well.

Sentai Filmworks presents Kandagawa Jet Girls in a splendid 1:78:1 1080p transfer that looks quite good with excellent color and detail. Audio is handled by Japanese and English 2.0 HD tracks and comes through crisp and clear. Extras include clean opening and closings, a highlight reel, and promos. RECOMMENDED
