Scavenger, known as Carroña in its homeland Argentina, is an extremely low-budget, ultra-gory grindhouse science fiction/action/horror film. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic Mad Max type of world, it features a character named Tisha, an assassin who kills people for their body parts and makes deals for them. The money she makes as an organ trafficker helps her look for a criminal group that killed her family. She plays to get bloody revenge against them.

Scavenger has a cast that includes Sofia Lanaro, Nayla Churruarin, Eric Fleitas, and Rosa Cuenya Macedo, none of which I and probably many others have never heard of, which is understandable unless you are someone who has seen indie films from Argentina before. The acting is decent, but this movie is all about graphic, violent bloodletting. For fans that love hardcore and extreme gore, grindhouse style, then this movie is just for you. For a seventy-five-minute film, Scavenger packs a gratuitous blood and guts that might even nauseate those who aren’t usually queasy over these kind of films.

Cleopatra Entertainment Scavenger releases Scavenger on Blu-ray. This is a 1080i presentation with an MPEG-2 encode and, on a BD-25.

Colors tend to look washed out, with shots in the daylight on the desert are too bright. This also has bad, subpar shadow delineation which comes from the dark cinematography. It has a few good clear moments here and there, with acceptable clarity

Regarding the audio, the Blu-ray of Scavenger features the original Spanish audio and a brand-new English dubbed version, with both being presented in 5.1 Dolby Digital. The dialogue is clear with the music and action noises being more aggressive.

Included in this Blu-ray package are a few extras. For those interested in the music for this film, the release comes with a 15-song soundtrack CD. Also, part of the supplemental package includes an image slideshow and a theatrical trailer for Scavenger. Cleopatra Entertainment also includes trailer of their other movies including The Hex and Daddy’s Girl.

Scavenger is nothing more than a gore-lovers dream with a so-so plot with more focus on revolting special effects. The release by Cleopatra will suffice as you know this Blu-ray will not look digitally remastered in 4K. But it does come with a CD soundtrack!
