Kino Lorber has been releasing a few movies on Blu-ray that are directed by Mitchell Leisen and starring screen legend Claudette Colbert (Arise, My Love). One of those films is the recent release of No Time for Love which the great actress is paired alongside another screen legend in Fred MacMurray (Double Indemnity) in one of six pictures they made together.
This 1943 classic comedy-drama has a high-society fashion photographer Katherine Grant (Colbert) who is assigned to photograph some tunnel workers (called Sandhogs) doing construction work at tunnel project site. One of the laborers, Jim Ryan (MacMurray), falls for the upper-class Katherine. Jim gets into a fistfight with one of the workers, which she takes photographs of the battle. The pictures are published, and he’s fired. Katherine, feeling terrible about this hires Jim to work for her. Things go well until romance happens between the two.
No Time for Love is an entertaining, fun drama with some amusing moments that will cause you to chuckle. From top to bottom the cast as expected handed in great performances in their respective roles. Director Leisen blends romantic themes with various tongue-in-cheek moments perfectly, making for a satisfying matinee movie.
Kino Lorber debuts Mitchell Leisen’s No Time for Love to Blu-ray. The 1080p film is on a dual-layered disc. The black and white picture is superb with the boost in contrast. Black Levels are nice and dark, with crisp whites. The grey scale is balanced, and scenery are highly detailed. There a few print damage issues like speckling, but nothing distracting, Film grain is present throughout and no signs of DNR or other artificial enhancements were detected.
For this release Kino has opted once again to go with English DTS-HD Master 2.0 for the audio. The dialog comes in perfectly clear without any issues detected. Some of the audio comes in aggressively with the construction noises and the excellent score by Victor Young coming up strong here.
Extras include an audio commentary by film critic Nick Pinkerton who covers the film in detail. There is also a trailer for No Time for Love and no less than 11 other Kino Lorber catalog releases that have the same actor, director, or type of story.
No Time for Love is a triumphant release featuring superb audio and video. If you enjoy films starring Claudette Colbert this one is a no-brainer. The release by Kino is another recommended release!
