Auntie Lee’s Meat Pies is a comedy horror that stars legendary actress Karen Black (Trilogy of Terror, Burnt Offerings) as a Satan worshipperand her four voluptuous fellow “nieces” Fawn (Kristine Ann Rose), Magnolia (Ava Fabian), Coral (Teri Weigel), and Sky (Pia Reyes) are known for making the yummiest meat pies. Auntie Lee has a top-secret recipe which is human flesh when she makes her pies.

There really isn’t much to the story other than the four sexy girls are constantly able to lure men into Auntie Lee’s home where they become meat for her pies. There is a subplot with a private investigator Harold Ivars(David Parry, The Lost Platoon) is tracking an escaped convict Bob Evans(Stephen Quadros, Glass Jaw) which takes him to Auntie Lee’s house and what you expect to happen does indeed happen.

The film has a pair of screen legends in Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes) as Larry who takes the victims cars to the backyard and does house maintenance and Pat Morita (The Karate Kid) as Chief Koal, the town’s cop who is friends with Auntie Lee. Former Bowery Boy/ East Side Kid Huntz Hall has a small role as Farmer.  The four “nieces” are softcore porn regulars and practically every scene with them is filled with eroticism that there are times where the film feels like it could be an adult film rather than a horror movie. Watch for the scene with Coral with snakes, this may remind some fans of any David Lynch film!

Vinegar Syndrome debuts Auntie Lee’s Meat Pies on Blu-ray. It is on a Region Free BD-50 disc and has been given a 4k restoration from its 35mm original camera negative. The results are astounding. Colors look sharp, especially reds and blues which there is plenty of. Daylight scenes look phenomenal with a lot of details to the scenery. Night scenes are clear with rich black levels. Film grain is present throughout the presentation.

The English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 sounds generally clear with dialog, screams and other action noises coming in clear.  The musical scores by Scott Broberg and Michael Licari is easily the most potent aspect of the audio. English SDH subtitles are available for this release.

There are plenty of extras for this release including Express with Less which is an interview with actor Michael Berryman. Blood in the Pool is an interview with makeup effects artist Roy Knyrim. So Bad it’s Good is an interview with actor Richard Vidan. Say Yes has an interview with actor Grant Cramer. These interviews all reflect on various aspects of the film.

Another fun extra, A Recipe for Auntie Lee’s Meat Pies – by The Homicidal Homemaker has the YouTube personality showing us how to make a meat pie. He seems to be having fun making a meat pie recipe.

Auntie Lee’s Meat Pies is a cult classic with food, sex, oddball characters. Vinegar Syndrome has given this film justice with this superb release
