Silip Daughters of Eve is a Filipino erotic story from 1985 which takes aim at two sisters who take different paths with their sexuality

Maria Isabel Lopez, a former Miss Philippines stars as Tonya who has chosen religion and celibacy to fight off her sexuality. She teaches catechism to the local children at a village. Her sister Selda (Sarsi Emmanuelle, Bomba Queen) is the complete opposite. She has just arrived at the village with her American boyfriend Ronald. Selda is later caught having sex with Simon (Mark Joseph, G.I. Baby), the local butcher and apparent stud of the area. After he catchers Selda having sex with Simon, a fight breaks out, ultimately leading to Ronald leaving the village where they are staying. Tonya also desires Simon but wants no part of it, doing anything possible to keep her desires at bay, including the use of hot sand that she throws between her legs.

Silip Daughters of Eve is a more than just a sexploitation film, as it explores religious hypocrisies and what it’s like to be a woman who is trying to fight off her sexual prowess. Yes, there’s plenty of nudity and soft-core sex scenes, but the film is disturbing to say the least, starting right at the beginning of the film’s opening scene with an ox, which caught me off guard. The scenes of sex and violence may disturb some viewers, while others will enjoy the gratuitous amount of sleaze.

Mondo Macabro has unleashed this relentless movie on Blu-ray, and it looks marvelous. There is a special edition in a red case with extra bells and whistles, while this one on review is the standard edition. Silip Daughters of Eve has been digitally restored from the original 35MM film negative. The details are strong overall, with a clean image. There are some moments that show a bit of print damage but nothing distracting. The colors are strong with reds and blues looking the sharpest. Outdoor scenes of the beautiful Filipino landscape, the water, the sand look superb. Black levels are solid and skin tones look natural, and yes, there’s plenty of skin on display here.

There are DTS-HD 2.0 audio tracks in both English and Tagalog with optional subtitles only provided in English. The Tagalog version is the better of the two, at least to me because that is the original language for the film. Overall, both tracks are perfectly fine with crisp, easy to understand dialog and other noises coming in clearly.

This release of Silip Daughter of Eve includes some new and vintage extras. There is the interview with director Elwood Perez, which is from the DVD release. The interview with Maria Isabel Lopez is also ported over from the DVD. There is a new interview Sarsi Emmanuelle, titled Memoirs of a Survivor. Andrew Leavold, the person that gathered all the older extras for this release provides an audio commentary.

As a whole, the commentary track and interviews will be of interest to fans of the film as they are all insightful, covering Silip in full detail.

There are a few Mondo Macabro previews to round out the extras.

Silip Daughters of Eve on Blu-ray will be a real treat for fans and collectors. With upper-tier audio and video quality to go with the old and new supplemental materials for this release, this offering from Mondo Macabro is highly recommended!
