When EuroCultAV got the first series of Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Many years back (has it really been years, time is weird, and the original version of the site was torn down so I can’t check). Being a tabletop RPG fanatic, I was immediately drawn to the concept of the show, and remembered having a good time with it. I haven’t gone back though, or seen the spin off, so I didn’t know how I’d enjoy this one.

The season begins with Bell accepting a challenge to participate in a “war game”. This feels significant, because early in the first season, he was weak and could not stand such a challenge. This shows his growth as a character on a strength level, but also on a bravery level. The first few episodes deal with the setup of this game, and the concluding battle. I wasn’t sure about this at first, as there was less dungeon and more war, and those who know me will tell you that I am more Dungeons and Dragons than Warhammer 40k but I went with it.

We then have a 2nd arc with the Goddess Ishtar competing for Bell’s affection, not because of any strong feelings for him, but because a competing Goddess also digs him. While I sort of dug the Apollo arc, I didn’t quite get into the half too much. Also, after having concluded the series I felt like a lot of this series was setup for the next season which comes out next year. We’ll see if that prediction plays out when the Blu-ray of that is reviewed.

The Blu-ray from Sentai Filmworks comes with a 1080p presentation and looks quite solid. Colors pop, detail is solid, and I did not detect any issues. Audio is presented in 2 HD audio tracks in Japanese and English, both sounded quite fine and again without issue. Extras include clean opening and closing. RECOMMENDED.
