I can’t fully explain why I get into anime series like Senryu Girl but sometimes I basically need these as a palette cleanser between more serious things and they just hit hard when I need them. Senryu Girl is based on a manga series by Masakuni Igarashi. It follows Nanako Yukishiro, who is a shy high school girl that uses her poetry (Senryu) to communicate with those around her. One of those friends is Eiji, a troublemaker who is using poetry as well to create an outlet for his former violent tendencies. As the series progresses the two begin to fall in love.

The series admittedly has an odd premise, but I’m all for weird premises even if they fail, and this one does not. It goes for it, and it works quite well. The premise of a young girl using poetry to communicate is odd, but it’s fun and gives the show a wonderful quirky atmosphere. It also helps inject Nanako with an air of sweetness that makes her irresistible as as protagonist.

The Sentai Blu-ray looks quite solid with it’s 1:78:1 1080p AVC encoded transfer. Detail is solid, colors are muted, but nice. Audio is presented in English and Japanese and comes through clear. Extras include a clean opening and closing. RECOMMENDED.
