I’m going to admit a strike of confusing when this Blu-ray hit my mailbox. I feel I reviewed the complete Maid Sama! Years ago, and as the original ECAV is gone I couldn’t check, but then I doubled back to see if this was a reboot, second season, or something else. As it stands it is just a re-release of the earlier Blu-ray.
Cool, as I can’t find my earlier review, and I don’t remember disliking this it’s a reason to do a rewatch.
Maid Sama! Is an anime series from 2010-2011 and is based on a manga series by Hiro Fujiwara. It ran for 26 episodes (plus one). It follows Misaki Ayuzawa, a teenage girl who has just become the first student body president of a former all-boys school. She has to act tough and no-nonsense to be taken seriously, and to keep the pervy dudes from getting to her. Misaki, also has flip side. Her home life is not what is expected, her Father is in deep debt, and she works at a maid cafe (outfit and all). She is quickly spotted by a school rival Usui, who plans on using Misaki’s predicament to his advantage, but after a while a relationship begins to blossoms, among other bits of craziness.
It’s been more than a few years since I’ve seen Maid Sama! So I wasn’t sure if I’d still dig it, but I’m happy to say it was fun and enjoyable. It was definitely fun seeing what kind of crap Usui was going to pull on Misaki and seeing how much she’d put up with and at the same time if a relationship would come out of this slice of weirdness.
I don’t believe this Sentai Re-Release is a new transfer it’s a 1:78:1 1080p transfer that looks a bit soft, but is definitely watchable. Audio is in English and Japanese and sounds quite solid, and has no distinct issues. Extras include a short and clean opening and closing. RECOMMENDED.
